Oskaloosa, Iowa (September 18th, 2013)
Championship point battles ended

on Wednesday night with Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling Company and KBOE Radio

Night at the races. Fans were able to get up close with the drivers that were

in attendance at intermission as each driver in attendance was introduced.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts feature and despite only

having three cars, it was close racing the entire ten laps. John Whalen lead

the first six laps before Track Champion Merv Chandler grabbed the lead away on

lap seven. Chandler went on to take his 8th win of the season at SIS. John

Whalen held off his brother Bill Whalen to take second in the feature and the

points championship.

In the Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stock feature it was Aaron Osweiler grabbing the

lead but Doug Sylvester was right on his back bumper the entire way the first

six laps. The yellow came out just after the completion of lap six when Dustin

Griffiths experience some troubles in turn four. Osweiler remained out front

until lap eight when Danny Thrasher snuck by for the lead. Thrasher held off

Sylvester to take his 2nd win at the big half mile. Sylvester in his second

visit to the speedway found his way in the runner up spot. Craig Brown, Mike

Hughes and Justin Hook rounded out the top 5. Bill Bonnett was crowned the 2013

track champion.

Bill Davis started right where he left off the week before in the Musco

Lighting IMCA Modifieds feature. Davis and the field saw the yellow come out on

lap five when Casey Greubel and Scott Dickey spinning in turn four. On the

restart, Davis saw Andrew Schroeder and Cayden Carter on his back bumper and he

was able to hold them off, Carter worked his way in to 2nd and tried hard to

get by the veteran. It appeared after Carter showed his nose to Davis on lap 13

that Davis was going to take the win but the youngster did not give up as

Carter made the move to grabbed the lead in turn three just before the white

flag. Carter went on to take the win with Davis in 2nd. Schroeder finished 3rd,

Tyler Groenendyk was 4th and Jacob Murray was 5th.

Logan Anderson grabbed the early lead in the Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA

Sport Mods feature, just like he has done a lot this year. Anderson lead until

the caution waived on lap four when Eric Flander went on a spin cycle in turn

two. Track Champion Curtis VanDerWal, who worked his way up to fifth spot got a

great restart and grabbed the lead away on lap five. VanDerWal looked to be

pulling away but the yellow came out on lap nine when Charley Webber spun on

the front stretch and then the restart was waived off. VanDerWal saw Tyler

Heckart and Super Nationals Champion Carter VanDenBerg on his back bumper.

VanDerWal held them off until lap 14 when VanDenBerg snuck by to take the lead.

VanDenBerg took the win meanwhile VanDerWal came home in the runner up spot.

Matthew Looft finished in the third spot, Heckart and Lowry was fourth and

fifth respectively.

Final feature of the night was the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car feature and before

a single lap was completed the caution waived when Kris Walker, Damon Murty,

Nathan Wood, Jason Cook, Mike Johnston, Randy Killen and Alan Van Gorp all got

together after Rich Vogt caught crossed up, Vogt continued moving the others

all bunched up in turn four. Donavon Nunnikhoven grabbed the lead on the restart

but the caution waived again for debris in turn three just after the first lap

was scored. Nunnikhoven continued to lead until the caution came out for the

final time on lap five, Nunnikhoven then pulled in with troubles that handed

the lead over to Brad Pinkerton. Pinkerton lead the remaining laps to take his

third win of the season and Todd Reitzler finished 2nd. Cayden Carter driving

the Roger Kelderman Stock Car came home 3rd, Corey Stout finish 4th and Jason

Minnehan was 5th. Track Champion was Nathan Wood.

After having the initial start called back in the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car

feature it was "From Aross the Street" Corey Stout grabbing the lead

but just after the completion of lap two the caution came out when Jason Cook,

Curt Hook and Brad Pinkerton got together on the backstretch. Stout refused to

let that bother him as he began to pull meanwhile Zack Vanderbeek was working

his way through the field. Stout held off a late race charge from Vanderbeek to

take his first win of the season at SIS. Kris Walker finish third, Nathan Wood

was fourth and Brad Pinkerton was fifth.
